PUBLIC NOTICE: Our Name Has Changed

People unfamiliar with our organization may not know who we are and what we do based on the name "Best Friends in Harford County."  If you heard the name without an association with animals or a logo, it would be difficult to know our mission.  We are changing our name to inform the public immediately on who we are and what we do.  With that said, the new name of Best Friends in Harford County is Shadow Cats TNR.

"Shadow cats" is a term that has been used by our organization since inception in 2015 for the Trap Neuter Return (TNR) program. This organization was started with the intent to TNR Harford county's cats.  It was not originated as a rescue to handle adoptions, but as time progressed and friendly cats and kittens were trapped, the need arose for fosters and adoptions.

Over the years we have greatly expanded our volunteer numbers and the number of cats that we have been able to spay/neuter through the TNR program, with adoptable cats/kittens, and for owned cats/kittens.  In 2016, when Best Friends in Harford County started performing TNR services, we spayed/neutered a total of 916 cats/kittens.  In 2020, we had our biggest year with a total of 1,637 cats/kittens spayed/neutered -- in a year where many spay/neuter clinics were forced to close due to the pandemic.  This year, we are set to surpass our 2020 total.  As of this date, we have altered over 7,300 cats/kittens!

Our goal has been and remains to improve the lives of community cats and their caretakers through our TNR program, as well as to help cat owners obtain spay/neuter surgery for their pet cats/kittens.  We will continue to have adoptable cats/kittens through our regular adoptions as well as through our barn cat program.

Please be patient with us as we update our website, social media account, etc.

We will add "formerly known as Best Friends in Harford County" on new literature for the next several months until the public becomes accustomed to our new name.

Thank you,

Shadow Cats TNR Board of Directors
